Masterton Golf Club

The weather, over the last week, has meant that only the very keen, or perhaps desperate, have ventured out onto the course and the club fields have been severely reduced.

The Saturday club field consisted only of men who played a stableford round. It was great to see Phil Rutene, returning to golf after his leg operation, winning the competition. Results were-

1st        Phil Rutene                          39

2nd       Rob Blackett                         38

3rd        Carl Christensen                 36

4th        Mike Falloon                         36

The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin on No 8 was won by Mike Falloon and No 18 was awarded to Phil Rutene.

The Monday vets also had a men only field in very cold conditions. Results were-

Men Group 1

2nd       Robin Carseldine                24

3rd        Kelvin Biggs                         22

Men Group 2

1st        Ian Hull Brown                     25

2nd       Mike Inwood                         25

3rd        John Whitehead                  25

Last Wednesday’s 9 holers had the biggest club field of the week for a PGG Wrightson Nett round. The competition was won by Val Diedrichs with 35 nett, followed by Noeline Eastwood with 39. The PGG Wrightson Longest Drive went to Barbie Wallace and the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin to Noeline Eastwood.

The New World Supermarket Thursday competition was won by Rob Blackett with 41 points, five ahead of 2nd placed Michael Batley on 36. Third was Brent McHattie on 35 and a group of players on 34. The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was Rob Blackett.

The Tuesday women’s club day played a par round in bitter weather. Results were-

Silver

2nd       Sereana Phillipps                -2

3rd        Jeanette McNae                   -3

Next week will be a Home Pennants Stableford and the Captains v Secretary competition.

The big event coming up this week is the Hospice Wairarapa Ambrose Tournament on Friday with registration from 10am and a shotgun start at 11am. Entries are still being taken, but be quick.

This Saturday the men’s club field will play for the Hornabrook Cup, a par competition over one round and the women’s field, a stableford round.

Off The Fairway

The weather over the last week has meant the wood shed has taken a ‘hammering’ so for anyone who needs to ‘top up’ the golf club has plenty of pine and gum for sale- just ring the office to order, or phone Kelvin Biggs.
