The Wairarapa Open is the jewel in our calendar — one of the region’s most prestigious golf tournaments and a proud tradition at Masterton Golf Club. First contested in 1926, the Open reached its centenary in 2026 — one hundred years of competition interrupted only by the Second World War and, more recently, by COVID in 2020.
Over that time the championship has drawn many of the region’s — and the country’s — finest players. Its honours board carries some truly celebrated names: major champions Sir Bob Charles, winner of The Open Championship in 1963, and Michael Campbell, the 2005 US Open champion, along with leading professionals with strong local ties such as Masterton-born Ben Campbell and Kerry Mountcastle. Their presence on the board is a mark of the calibre this championship has long attracted.
Now played as the Trust House Wairarapa Open, it continues to bring golfers and supporters together each year to contest a title steeped in history. We’re proud to honour every champion who has lifted the Open trophy — their names are recorded on this page.
