The highlight of the long weekend was undoubtedly the very popular Wine and Dine Stableford Tournament on Anzac Day which attracted a field of over 80, enticed by the very generous prizes from many wineries and eateries in Wairarapa including wine tasting with Matahiwi Wines and some excellent organisation. The only interclub in the past week was the 9 holers interclub against Martinborough at Paraparaumu where a 4-0 win meant victories to Rosey Wellbrock, Di Herbert, Ruth Wiley and Susie Williams.
Last Wednesday the 9 holers played a PGG Wrightson Putting competition where 1st equal were Mary Herrick, Rosie Wellbrock and Jill Slight. In the stableford competition 1st equal was Di Alexander and Lindy Williamson. The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was Susie Williams and the longest drive, Jill Slight.
The Saturday club field played stroke rounds with the men’s round a Challenge Shield and Chairman’s Trophy qualifier. Results were-

The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin on No 8 went to Ian Buchanan and the longest drive to Allan Carroll. A moderate birdsnest was won by Ray Verhaart

The New World Supermarket stableford competition saw evergreen Jeff Thomas ‘scoop the pool’ with a resounding 45 points to be a clear winner from Tony Roseingrave on 42 and third placed Jamie Brunton and Carl Christensen. Phil Rutene won the birdsnest with two 2’s and the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was Jamie Brunton.
In the first week of the school holidays Joel Macklin, one of our resident pro’s, has been running a junior coaching programme and, as a finale, took four Masterton juniors to the Martinborough Junior Open last Friday. 10-year-old Jamie Frew won the Under 16 boys nett with a score of 66, 13-year-old Nate Hefferen won the stableford division with 40 points and 10-year-old Wiremu Herbert was 2 centimetres away from his first hole in one. Well done boys!
This Saturday the two 18 hole interclub teams are in action, Div A4 away at Miramar and Div A1 at home against Karori. A club day will be held with a 12 noon disc draw. On Sunday the Gibsonsheat Otaki Cup team meets Miramar at Royal Wellington and the next round of the Marquis Shield is played at Masterton so the course will be closed with our members having reciprocal rights on other Wairarapa courses but contact the club you are visiting first.
Entries are open for the Wairarapa Open, a 72 hole tournament to be played on 7-8 May.
