Over the last week the very cold and wet weather has severely curtailed the club’s golf programme and only the very keen, or perhaps desperate, have ventured out onto the course and the club fields have been severely reduced.
However, the annual Australian golf trip has taken place and this year 16 Masterton players enjoyed brilliant weather and played six rounds of golf while based in Mooloolaba. This is the 11th year a trip to Queensland has been organised and to date 36 men members have been at least once, and two on all eleven ‘pilgrimages’. The old saying ’what goes on tour stays on tour’ applies but there are some interesting facts which can be made public. According to results the hardest course was Palmer Coolum where the average stableford score was 22.3 with the top score being 35 points and the lowest,12! The easiest course (is it easy because players score well?) was Twin Waters which had an average stableford score of 29.4 with the top being 36 points and the lowest a good 20 and the second ‘best’ was Pelican Waters where 28.8 was a good average. What is usually described as ‘the best course’, Noosa Springs, was spoilt by very strong cold wind, but still remains a favourite.
Next year, ‘all things being equal’ the trip will be to the Gold Coast, based in Broadbeach and with the cold weather since the group got back we can’t wait to play with blue skies and a temperature of 24 degrees again!
Last Thursday only 3 players completed their round in the New World Supermarket stableford and no results were kept.
On Saturday 6 players braved the arctic conditions, including one Australian ‘tourist’, for a stableford round. Results were-

The Tuesday women’s club day got a cold but dry day with eleven women facing the wintry conditions. Results were-
