The WCM Legal Hospice Wairarapa Ambrose Tournament was held on the course last Friday and attracted 22 teams on a day when the weather almost cooperated! Hospice Wairarapa provides support and care for those living with any form of terminal illness and helping patients and their friends with free palliative services.
The tournament was won by Central Forklifts with last year’s winning team, second (although they had undergone a name change and two new members. Abbreviated results were-

One of the interesting innovations was the ‘Pimp the Pro’ offer where a team on No 18 green could buy a putt from the pro (with the money going to the hospice) and/or a drive on No 1 tee. In fact Central Forklifts, the winning team, successfully used both the putt and the drive when their team members failed. Pro Joel Macklin raised $185 for the Hospice with this enticement. Congratulations to Sue Rutene and Suzie Adamson who organised yet another highly successful fundraiser, assisted by many Hospice and golf club volunteers.
On Tuesday the women’s club day played the Norah Lambourn Trophy, a 4BBB competition with the joint winners being Serena Phillipps and Pam Griffith, and Nooroa Rota and Edith Clarkson. The Quilters Lane Nearest the Pin was Janice Hayes and the New World No 18 went to Jane Williams. A special 90th birthday party was held for Norah with bubbles and birthday cake helping her make the presentation to the winners.
On Saturday the men’s field played the Jameson Cup, a 4BBB Par 18 hole competition. The scoring was amazing with the trophy being won by Jim Kettle and Nathan Frew on +10!

The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was Jim Kettle.
Last Wednesday’s 9 holers played a PGG Wrightson stableford. The competition was won by Jill Slight on 20 points from Jane Watts, Di Herbert and Ruth Wiley, all on 18.

On Thursday a good field played the New World Supermarket stableford which was won by Geoff McKay on 40 points from Geoff masters, also on 40. Third, on 39, was Barry Auckram from Eketahuna and fourth, a swag of players on 38. The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was Brett Dymond.
Entries in the men’s club championships close this Thursday so put your name on the entry sheet on the men’s noticeboard or contact Ray Verhaart. The draw is being done Thursday night so there can be no extensions.
It is not clear in the fixtures diary what both men and women are playing on Saturday but remember there will be a disc draw at 12 noon.
Some ‘Off the Fairway’ news- The All Teed Up Proshop at the Masterton Golf Club has been given a facelift. Expected to take three weeks to complete the refit was knocked out in 18 days thanks to the help of golf club volunteers. Merv Brown led the building division and Murray Wolland was the head painter. Located downstairs in the Golf Club clubhouse the new, roomier golf shop is open 7 days for all to see and with more room it is far easier to find what you are looking for, or just browse.
