The Recreational Services Masterton Eketahuna Pro Am will be held on 28 and 29 January 2017 and planning is well underway. On 14 October entry packs are being sent to all teams that played in the 2016 event. These teams have until 1 November to enter before the field is opened up to new teams, or teams that may have played before, but missed out last year, so get your team organised now and be ready for the entry forms.
Another popular event coming up is the beginning of the 2016-17 TRC Toyota Twilight golf which begins on Wednesday 9 November. This season will once again feature both singles and team’s (4 person) competitions and go for 16 weeks. You don’t have to have a handicap as organisers will ‘allocate one off handicaps each night for these new players and, of course, the golf can be followed by dinner and refreshments in the café.
Now onto the golf!
Both the women’s and men’s club championships are, or almost, at the semi-final stages. In the women’s championship matches all the semi-finalists have been found and, next week, Nooroa Rota will play Jenni Johnston and Carolyn Stevenson will meet Sereana Phillipps in the Silver division and, in the Bronze section, Brenda Blatchford will play Jocelyn Pollock and Jan Tatham will play Larraine Duckett. The finals will be held on 30 October, in conjunction with the men’s finals.
In the men’s club championships the seniors and intermediates are at the quarter final stage, but in the Junior A section Derek Clarkson and John Francis play each other and Dennis Hogg and Harry Quinn meet in the other semi-final. In the Masters semi-finals Ash Peterson will play Mike Dixon and Robin Carseldine meets Jamie Brunton. The finalists have been found in the Junior B division where Jamie Frew will play Simon Richardson.
Last week 10-year-old Jamie Frew won the New World Supermarket competition and this week his father, Nathan Frew took the honours with 42 points followed by Paul Fouhy and Rob Blackett on 40. In fourth place were John Tatham, Gavin Harris and Mike Dixon, with 37. Kevin Mackay won the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin.
The Wednesday 9 holers played a stroke round which was won by Sue Williams on 38 nett from Jill Slight on 39. The PGG Wrightson Nearest the Pin was Di Herbert.
