The men’s Maunsell Trophy final, which had to be postponed recently, was held on Saturday with the 10 finalists playing a par round, in keeping with the traditional way this competition is played. The scoring reflected the magnificent playing conditions and the trophy was won by John Hopkirk with a staggering +11, which equated to a net 58. Not far behind him was Jamie Brunton, who continued his fine form of late with a +9 round. Saturday club results-

The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin on N08 was won by Tom Webb and No 18 by Kevin Mackay.
The Wednesday 9 holers played a stroke round which was won by Beet Horrocks with a score of 33, followed by Ruth Wiley on 35. The PGG Wrightson Longest Drive went to Ruth Wiley and the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin to Mary Smith.
Excellent golfing conditions greeted the New World Supermarket Thursday stableford field and the scoring was just as good in a competition won by John Tatham with 45 points from Mike Falloon with 42 and Derek Clarkson and Steve Hemingway with 39. The All Teed Up Closest to the Pin was Brett Dymond.
The Monday vets field played a stableford round, in ideal weather. Results were-

The Fagan Ford Nearest the Pins were won by Celia Goldstone and Charles Anderson.
Next week the usual vets day will be on Wednesday (10.30 tee off) because Monday is Labour Day and the club is holding the WBS tournament.
The Tuesday ladies played the Captains Trophy, pair’s nett competition, which was convincingly won by Carolyn Stevenson and Shirley Saunders on 67.5 nett. Second was Brenda Blatchford and Pam Griffith on 73.0 and third, Jan McLaren and Val Cobb on 73.5.
Don’t forget the club’s Melbourne Cup tournament on Tuesday 4 November is open to both men and women with an 11.30 shot gun start.
This weekend the Saturday competition for men will be the Jameson Cup, a 4BBB Par competition and for women, Split Sixes, but the feature of the weekend is the WBS tournament on Monday.
Off The Fairway
The club’s shop in Mastermall has been doing very well with new stock arriving all the time. A big thank you to Jocelyn for all the work she puts in, to all the volunteers who man it and to the owners of Mastermall for the very generous arrangement which will mean the shop remains open until Christmas.
