The Lansdowne Park Lifestyle Village Masters was played in fine, but very windy conditions on Saturday and Sunday and the major prize was won by Innes Kennard with rounds of 40 and 38 stableford points for a total of 78. Innes was presented with the magnificent trophy and a $1000 travel voucher by the manager of the complex, Ginni Scott. Being a Masters tournament the field was divided into age divisions, rather than handicap sections, and the winners of these divisions were-

- The Monday vets had a ‘double banger’ this week with the Shootout being played by the 13 qualifiers and the rest of the vets playing a stableford round. Results of the stableford round, were-1st Shirley King 263rd Helen Falloon 171st Keith Nelson 273rd Rex Fowler 261st John Whitehead 223rd George Grantham 21
- The Fagan Ford nearest the Pin was won by Alex Tulloch.
- In a shootout final which contained lots of chip outs and the usual number of costly poor shots, Alan Sadler emerged the winner from Mick Gates. The third to last player to be eliminated was Bob Macfarlane.
- The 9 holers have held the Trust House Shootout for 9 holers and the winner was Geri Southey with Ruth Wiley second and Barb Wallace, third. The 9 holers prize giving is on 19 November.
- The 2014-15 twilight season is underway with the first night of the TRC Toyota twilight last Wednesday. On a very poor ‘weather night’ 28 turned out to play with the top prize’s going to Allan Williams and Jo Philps, both with 19 points. Second in the men was Carl Christensen with 17 and in the women, Lorraine Stewart with 18. Russell Stewart and Janna Blundell won the Wairarapa Funeral Services Longest Drive’s and Vic Jacobsen won the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin on No 8.
- There were numerous nearest the pins and longest drives in this popular and well sponsored tournament.
- Last Thursday’s New World Supermarket stableford competition saw about 14 holes of good weather and then a southerly front arrived and halved the field. The winner was Mike Dixon with 39 points from Ash Peterson on 38 and Gavin Harris, Innes Kennard and Carl Christensen, all on 37. The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was Jeff Ogg.
- The Tuesday ladies field played an Eclectic Teams Stableford with teams of three. First was the team of Shirley Saunders, Janice Hayes and Chris Lewis with 47 points on countback from Jenny Sadler, Jenni Johnston and Jo Philps. Nearest the Pin’s were Lusiana Williams and Janice Hayes.
- With two qualifying rounds to go, this Thursday and on Saturday, in the men’s Moore Stephens Markham Shootout the final field has yet to be confirmed. There are about four or five who could become ‘top qualifier’ but also about the same number vying for the 19th place and with some of the ‘middle of the field’ players possibly not available for the final, the next two rounds are crucial.
- Don’t forget to enter the various Turkey tournaments coming up in the next 10 days- the entry sheets are in the foyer.
- This Saturday the men will play a stroke round but the main event will be the All Teed Up three person ambrose tournament on Sunday. This tournament is open to both men and women and tees off at 11am.
- The weekend is also the Wellington Champion of Champions tournaments so our winners will be away representing the club, the men at Royal Wellington and the women at Boulcott Farm.
- Off The Fairway
- In the last week the club has been saddened to hear about the death of Brian Maunsell. Brian was one of our longest serving members and was a very good golfer. A popular story is that when he was just ‘out of school’ he went overseas and when he was at St Andrews the professional there tried very hard to get him to turn professional, but the lure of the farm in Wairarapa was too much and he returned home. Being extremely gifted with his hands, Brian did all sorts of maintenance jobs around the club but his ongoing ‘memorials’ will be the two seats he built out of totara battens which are currently on the 13th and 14th men’s tees.
