There’s something for everyone in Men’s Golf at Masterton Golf Club — a strong, vibrant part of the Club’s weekly schedule with a group for every kind of golfer.
Thursday sees members come together just before midday for a semi-competitive round, the Brad Chittick – Ray White Leaders Club Competition. It attracts between 20 and 50 golfers each week and is always followed by a jovial social gathering in the Club House afterwards.
Saturday brings out the serious golfers, but the day accommodates every handicap by splitting the field into two handicap groups. Between 30 and 60 members are drawn randomly into fours and compete for Player of the Day, with Stableford, Par, and Stroke play rounds played off the Blue and White tees. Afterwards there’s plenty of banter in the Club House as everyone waits for the 5pm results.
For those who like testing their skills against other clubs, the Men’s Match Committee enters teams in the Wellington Regional Interclub Competition and the Wairarapa District Marquis Shield Competition — within a couple of years of interclub golf, you’ll have played every course in the greater Wellington region.
And as with every club, there are prestigious Club Championships played across the season — Match Play, Stroke Play, Foursomes, Fourball, and Mixed. Whatever your game, there’s a trophy to win.
Women’s golf at Masterton Golf Club is a warm and welcoming space, with regular competitions through the week on our lovely course.
Our women players enjoy plenty of fun days during the year, often followed by lunch, and the Women’s Club is proactive in organising social events, participating in other clubs’ open days, and running golf “get-aways” throughout the season. If you’d like to be part of a friendly, welcoming golfing culture, we’d love to hear from you.
TUESDAYS – 18 HOLES
Our Tuesday 18-hole group plays a full round each week in good company, with a regular competition format and plenty of chances to meet other members.
New players are always made welcome.
WEDNESDAYS – 9 HOLES
The 9-hole women are a fun-loving and competitive group who play on Wednesday mornings, starting at 9am over summer and 9.30am once daylight saving ends for winter.
We have a planned schedule each Wednesday, playing for silverware and other awards presented at our end-of-season prize giving, and a group of our members compete in the Wellington Golf Inc. interclub competition each year. We’re fully supported by our two professionals from All Teed Up, who help us improve our golf with individual and group lessons.
Our 9-holers are a very friendly group, and we make a real effort to welcome new members and make sure they enjoy both their golf and the company of the group.
The Vets group at Masterton Golf Club plays on Monday mornings, with cards in for competition at 9.15am and tee off at 9.30am. If a public holiday or other Club competition falls on a Monday, we switch to Wednesday instead and advise members of the start time.
Competitions are normally a Stableford round, though once a month we have an optional shootout (stroke) round, and on the last Monday of the month we play an Ambrose round with Men and Ladies combining.
In line with New Zealand Vets guidelines, our age eligibility is 50 for Ladies and 55 for Men, though younger players are welcome to join our competition. The Vets play a shortened 12-hole course, leaving out holes 2, 3, 4, 12, 13, and 14 — eliminating the hillier parts of the course.
We welcome new members from inside or outside the Club who’d like to play a shorter course in great company, with golfers in their own age group. Among our 60-plus members are a mix of Vets playing only 12 holes and full members who also play 18 holes on other competition days — everyone is welcome at our Monday events. Just contact the office and they’ll put you in touch with one of our committee.

On Friday and Sunday, for those who are less competitive, there’s a very active and social group who tee off at midday.
Cards are shuffled to select playing fours, so it’s a great way to meet and enjoy the company of all our social players.
