Both the women’s and men’s interclub teams have been in action over the last week, with very different results!
The women’s Pennants teams played and had two very good results with the Div 3 Combined Silver and Bronze team, having already won the round robin competition, playing in the grand final and beating Judgeford at Shandon by a resounding 7½-1½. Singles wins went to Roselee Thurston, Jenni Johnston, Lola Ogg, Shirley Saunders and Jo Bird.
Almost as good was the result of the Div 2 Section 2 team. Playing Martinborough at Royal Wellington they had a 6-0 victory which was enough to squeeze past Boulcott’s Farm and win the section by one point. They now play Karori in the Div 2 Grand Final. Wins were recorded by Jane Williams, Jan Tatham, Larraine Duckett, Lesley Stewart, Pam Griffith and Lorraine Stewart.
The Div 1 Pennants team had the bye.
In contrast all the men’s interclub teams, including the Marquis Shield team, had losses. The Gibsonsheat Otaki Cup team played Miramar at Royal Wellington for a 4½-10½ loss. Singles wins went to Kerry Mountcastle, Simon Dew, Pim Borren and Jack Forrester.
In the 18 hole divisions, Div A1 met Karori at Masterton and had the shock of losing 5-10. Simon Buckley, Geoff Masters and Murray Wolland were the team’s winners. Div A4 travelled to Miramar for a 2½-12½ loss with Mike Falloon recording the only win.
On Sunday Masterton hosted the Marquis Shield, and played Mahunga, but comfortably lost in four out of the five competitions played under the Marquis Shield umbrella. The only place where Masterton held their own was in the junior singles where the points were squared with two wins apiece, so on the Marquis Shield table we lost 4-0. Singles winners on the day were Kevin Mackay, James Brunton, Trevor Smith and Darryl Hart with Jeff Ogg securing a half to see our 12-man team beaten 7.5 to 4.5. We lost five of the six fourball matches with our only success being a half achieved in the juniors by Darryl Hart and Glen Jackson.
