Most of the club’s interclub teams have played over the last week, with the women’s teams being by far the most successful. Undoubtedly the most successful of all is the club’s women’s Riverside Cup team. Playing last Friday at Eketahuna against Riversdale Beach they recorded a ‘perfect’ result with a 6-0 win with victories to Brenda Blatchford, Jeanette McNae, Christine Lewis, Shirley Saunders, Jocelyn Pollock and Janice Hayes.
The Pennants Div 1 team played Royal Wellington at Boulcott’s Farm and recorded a 6-3 win with singles wins to Sereana Phillipps, Jo Philps, Lusiana Williams and Marilyn Strang while the Pennants Div 3 team had the misfortune to meet Judgeford at Judgeford and suffered a heavy loss, 7-2 with Anne Smith being the only singles winner.
Last Thursday the 9 hole interclub team played Shandon at Masterton for a 2-2 draw with wins to Di Herbert and Beet Horrocks.
Meanwhile all the men’s Saturday interclub teams were ‘away’ and had losses. The Gibson Sheat Otaki Cup team played Boulcott’s Farm at Judgeford and after narrowly losing the foursomes in the morning managed only two wins in the afternoon singles for a 5-10 defeat. There were singles wins to Jack Forrester and Kerry Mountcastle. Div A4 travelled to Ohariu Valley and were reasonably satisfied with a 4½-10½ loss. Ash Peterson continued his good form to win along with Mike Dixon and Carl Christensen. Div A1 had the long trek to Paraparaumu for a 3-12 loss with wins to Simon Buckley and Geoff Masters.
Calm cool conditions saw 45 golfers attend TRC Toyota Twilight last Wednesday and they averaged 18.3 points across the field. In the men’s competition Harry Quinn thought he had played well to accumulate 23 points but he came 2nd by 4 points when Mitch Hooper shot 40 to score 27. On the women’s side Janna Blundell returned to form with 23 points ahead of ever consistent Jan Tatham on 22. Summer conditions were reflected in the longest drives with not one woman being able to stay on the sloping 18th fairway while Darryl Hart’s effort was just 2 feet in from the right rough. Fran Stewart won the Matahiwi Estate Pinot Noir when she shot a nett 1 for 5 points on the par 4 6th. Next week is the final night of competitive twilight golf and with only 9 points separating the top three teams; it’s still a very open ‘Teams Competition’.
Last Wednesday the 9 holers played a stroke round with the nett winner being Di Alexander with a round of 30. Second was Fran Stewart with 32. The PGG Wrightson Longest Drive went to Val Diedrichs.
This week the women had an LGU round for the Coronation Medal, the Aotearoa Cup, the Best Gross Cup and the Veterans Trophy, and putting. The Coronation Medal was won by Jeanette McNae, the Aotearoa Cup by Ngaire Stevens, the Veterans Trophy by Jan Tatham and the Best Gross Cup by Nooroa Rota. Results were-

The putting competition was won by Brenda Blatchford (Silver) with 26 putts and Jan Tatham (Bronze) with 25.
Nooroa Rota won both the new World and All Teed Up Nearest the Pins on No 8 and 18.
The Thursday New World Supermarket stableford competition again saw some excellent scoring with Ash Peterson winning with 45 points. A challenge for the more mature golfers is to ‘beat your age’ which means your gross score has to be less than your current age and Ash almost did it, equalling his age but missing the chance on the last hole. Second was David Dew with 41 points and third, Ewen Macdonald and Paul Fouhy with 40. Dean Gray was the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin and the birdsnest was ‘struck’ twice with Simon Smith and Dennis Hogg both getting two 2’s.
On Saturday a small men’s field played a stableford round. Results were-

This Saturday is a normal club day with the men playing a stroke round that doubles as a Challenge Shield, Chairman’s Trophy and Moore Stephens Markham qualifier.
Off the Fairway
A goal of most golfers is to get a hole in one at some stage of their career and Carl Christensen achieved this feat last Friday. Playing in the Friday Sunday Club he played the perfect shot on No 3 but says because the green was so far away he didn’t see the ball go in the hole!
