July and August are usually the quietest months on the golfing calendar as the weather dictates the ‘urge to play’ and interclub is almost over. With no major events in the last week the club had its usual club competitions.
The vets had a good turnout on Monday for a stableford round. Results were-

The Fagan Ford Nearest the Pin was Alan Sadler.
The Thursday New World Supermarket stableford competition attracted 27 starters who found good scoring difficult. Winner of the day was John Tatham with 39 points from John Cunningham. Third equal were Gavin Harris and Derek Clarkson on 36. The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin went to Paul Fouhy but the highlight of the day was the two 2’s scored by Peter Forrester which won him a good sized birdsnest.
Saturday was cold and bleak although those that played said they did not get too wet and the scoring certainly did not match the heavy conditions. The men played a par round and the women a stableford competition. Results were-

The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin’s on No 8 went to Ray Verhaart and Nooroa Rota and on No 18 to Gavin Harris.
On Wednesday the 9 holers played a PGG Wrightson stroke round which was won by Beet Horrocks on 37 from Di Herbert and Ruth Wiley, both with 39. The PGG Wrightson Longest Drive was Rosey Wellbrock and the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was Gill Neal.
The Tuesday women’s field played a Home Pennants Stableford. Results were-

The Quilters Lane Nearest the Pin on No 8 was Jo Bird and the New World Supermarket No 18, Ann Kenny.
This weekend is the men’s ‘trip away’ and about 28 members will be playing Belmont in Wanganui on Saturday and Hokowhiti on Sunday. For those not going there will be a normal club day on Saturday with a disc draw at 12 noon.
