With all the Pennants teams playing on Monday the women’s interclub takes centre stage this week and by far the best of these was the Div 3 team, playing in the combined grade at Masterton. The team had a 6½-2½ win against Shandon with wins to Roselee Thurston, Chris Lewis, Shirley Saunders and Lola Ogg. Also winning was the Pennants Div 1 (Silver) team which recorded a 5½-3½ win against Manor Park at Otaki. Singles wins went to Sereana Phillipps, Nooroa Rota, Carolyn Stevenson and Lusiana Williams. Div 1 is leading the competition after four rounds. Div 2 Section 2 (Bronze) played Boulcotts Farm at Martinborough for a 2½-3½ loss with wins going to Jane Williams and Liz Armstrong.
Last Thursday the 9 holers played round 4 of their interclub competition at Otaki against Manor Park and came away with a 2½-1½ win. Victories went to Di Herbert and Beet Horrocks.
This Tuesday the women’s field played the first round of the Nancy MacCormick Foursomes with the second round scheduled for a fortnight. Clubhouse leaders at the halfway stage are Janet Hayes and Jan Williams with a nett 64.5, followed by Jane Buchanan and Lorraine Stewart with 67.5.
After 14 playing Wednesdays, the final night of TRC Toyota Twilight golf competition play took place on Wednesday and big scores were common. 22 points or more was required to win a prize in the men’s competition with Kris Towgood winning with 25 points whilst Trish Newcombe with 23 topped the women’s division. Alan Williams and Jo Bird won longest drives and Jock Kershaw put his ball closet to the pin to win the All Teed Up prize.
Across the season, 32 women and 55 men have played, completing 647 rounds and scoring 10,908 stableford points. Of the 87 players who have completed rounds, 61 received prizes amounting to over $1500. It has been a great season with only three nights lost to bad weather. Competition winners will receive their prizes next Wednesday night at the trophy presentation gathering.
Last Wednesday the 9 holers played a PGG Wrightson stableford competition which was won by Di Alexander and Lorraine Jones, both on 21 points The PGG Wrightson Longest Drive on No 7 was won by Suzie Williams and the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin by Jinny Small.
The Monday vets have become the Wednesday vets over the last fortnight and last Wednesday played a stableford competition. Results were-

The excellent scoring on Thursdays in the New World Supermarket stableford competition continues with Robert Gardiner winning the day with 44 points from visitor Colin Murphy on 42 and David Cook on 41. Ash Peterson was the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin.
With no men’s interclub teams playing the Saturday field was considerably bigger than previous weeks for the men’s Challenge Shield and Chairman’s Trophy stroke round. Most would have thought the February ‘benchmarks’ would have been hard to better but Kerry Mountcastle came within one shot of equalling his gross 65 of 13 February in the Challenge Shield and Ray Verhaart set a new nett score of 60 in the Chairman’s Trophy. This Saturday all the men’s wellington interclub teams will be playing, the Gibsonsheat Otaki Cup team against Royal Wellington at Judgeford, the A1 team at home against Wainuiomata and the A4 team faces the long trek to Karori. Normal club day will be a disc draw at 12 noon.
