The new season of the TRC Toyota Twilight got underway last Wednesday and what a start it was. Normally it takes most players two or three weeks to get ‘in the mood’ and turn up but on the first night 29 men and 20 women fronted in ideal conditions to start the season off and more than 35 stayed to have a dinner and refreshments in the club house afterwards.
What they found out on the course was that “summer conditions” have yet to arrive with the top stableford score of 21 being recorded by Jill Slight in winning the women’s division and young Jamie Frew managed only 19 to win the men’s section. Peter Ramsden and Jo Bird fired out the longest drives to each win the Wairarapa Funeral Services ProV1 golf ball and Greg Ordish was closest to the pin to win the All Teed Up sponsored ball.
The ‘Teams’ event starts in earnest on the 23 November so come along and register your team of four and see if you can better the performances from previous years. Everyone is welcome and official handicaps are not required and, don’t forget there are also golf carts available for those with weary legs.

Thursday was also a bleak day for the New World Supermarket stableford competition which was won by Gavin Harris with 43 points from Dennis Hogg on 41 and David Cook on 40. Gavin Harris continued his monopoly on the Nearest the Pin on No 8 and also won the birdsnest again, although it hadn’t built up much since last week!
On Tuesday the ladies field played the Lendrum Buttons Challenge and the silver division was won by Jo Philps with 70 nett and the bronze section by Larraine Duckett with 83 nett. The Quilters Lane Nearest the Pin went to Jo Philps and the New World No 18 to Larraine Duckett.
