On Saturday the men played for the Jameson Cup, which is named after former president and respected club member, Joe Jameson. Six O’clock Joe, as he was affectionately called, was president of the club from 1948- 50 and one of his jobs to make sure the 19th was closed in the days of 6 o’clock closing! Saturday’s Jameson Cup, a 4BBB Par competition, was won by Ash Peterson and Carl Christensen with a score of +9. Results were-

The women played a medal round which was won by Lorraine Stewart with a 72 nett.
Simon Smith was nearest the pin on the All Teed Up No 8 and Sam Forrester won No 18.
The finalists in the women’s club champs have been decided. On Tuesday the semi-finals were played in front of a good group of spectators including Women’s President, Rachel Monk who is now recovering from major surgery. In the silver division the final will be between Carolyn Stevenson and Nooroa Rota, the Bronze A final will see Jenni Johnston play Jane Williams and in the Bronze B final Marilyn Beetham will play Isobelle Weaver. The women’s finals will be on Sunday 8 November, the same day as the men’s finals.
The Wednesday 9 holers played the second round of the club champs and Ruth Wiley came first and Rosemary Wellbrock was second. The PGG Wrightson Longest Drive went to Jill Slight and the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin to Sue Williams.
The New World Supermarket Thursday stableford competition is savouring the drier conditions and the scoring continues to ‘rocket’. Robin Carseldine won the competition with 41 points from Geoff Masters and Sereana Phillipps, also with 41. Fourth was Harry Quinn and Rob Blackett with 40. The All Teed Up Closest to the Pin was Kelvin Biggs but the feat of the day was the birdsnest being won by Geoff Masters.
The vets had a good field for the Monday stableford competition. Results were-

On Saturday the women will play a Split Sixes competition and the men will have another opportunity to qualify for the Markham Shootout but the big event this weekend is the WBS Labour Day Tournament on Monday with cards in at 11.45 for a 12 noon shotgun start.
Off The Fairway
Many will have been put off playing golf over the weekend, and especially on Sunday, because of the gale force winds but spare a thought for the field at the Fiji International Open in Sigatoka. The first two days were played in ‘raging winds’ and after two rounds only one player, eventual winner, Matt Kutcher was under par and one of the Australian tour professionals had had a round of 96, 24 over par!
