Masterton Golf Club

The Lansdowne Park Lifestyle Village Masters was played in magnificent golfing conditions on Sunday with over 70 players in the field. The major prize of $1000 travel, sponsored by Lansdowne Park and Helen Southey House of Travel was won by Darin Hiroki from Mornington with 42 stableford points. Darin was presented with his prize and the magnificent trophy by Ginni Scott, Manager, Lansdowne Park Lifestyle Village. Being a Masters tournament the field was divided into age divisions, rather than handicap sections, and the abbreviated results (prize lists went down to at least 11^th) were:

There were numerous nearest the pins and longest drives in this popular and well sponsored tournament but special mention must be made of two enterprising men, Gavin Harris and Phil Rutene who tried to claim the women’s nearest the pins in their age group!

The weather ‘came good’ for the TRC Toyota Twilight Golf last Wednesday and 52 golfers came out to play with David Greenlees winning the men’s division on 22 points and Jenni Johnson the ladies with 20 points, but it’s still tough going on the course with only 5 of the 33 men playing to their handicap or better and only 3 of the 19 women. The Wairarapa Funeral Services Longest Drive went to Kris Towgood and Jeanette McNae whilst the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was taken out by Bert Stoker.

Next week all the twilight season long competitions start.  We have ten 4-player teams already entered and several other players trying to put teams together so it looks like we will continue to have large turnouts on our Wednesday evenings. Why not come and join us?  Tee off from 4pm; nine holes on Wairarapa’s best golf course and dinner, refreshments and prize giving in the Café afterwards.

The Fagan Ford Nearest the Pin was won by Phil Brown

Last Thursday’s New World Supermarket stableford competition was won by Sila Fa’aiuaso with 43 points with daylight second and then Murray Johnston and Richard Schofield on 39. The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was Richard Schofield.

The men’s Saturday club field played a South African Stableford while the women had a stableford round. Results were-

This Saturday is, of course, the Trust House Christmas Cheer with the entry sheet in the foyer already filling up for the popular tee times but plenty of other spaces available.

Off the Fairway

There’s always a first time for everything and players in Sunday’s Lansdowne Park Tournament may have noticed the two young fishers (a man and young lady) busy fishing in the main lake by the 4^th tee. They didn’t seem to be catching anything and it’s not known if they had a licence, but top marks for enterprise on such a lovely afternoon. Might be better to ask permission first next time!
