The first of the three Christmas Cheer tournaments to be held in the next week took place on Monday when the vets held their event. The scoring was sensational with the overall winner, Laurie Williams scoring 33 points from the 12 hole round. Other selected results were-

The closest to the pins went to Ash Peterson and Pam Sutherland. The next Christmas Cheer is the 9 holers on Wednesday and then the big Trust House Open tournament on Saturday.
Congratulations to Kerry Mountcastle and Sam Maree Brown who have both been selected for the Wellington Interprovincial teams and to our apprentice green keeper, Wade Gallon, who recently finished his apprenticeship and is now fully qualified.
On Sunday our championship winners, or their substitutes, played in the Wellington Champion of Champions. The men made the long trip to Karori and overall came 7th with Jim Kettle coming 4th in the intermediates and Jamie Strang 4th in the juniors.
Nooroa Rota and Jane Williams represented the club at the women’s Champions of Champions at Miramar and Jane won the 36 hole nett medal from 13 other clubs.

The wintry weather conditions for the TRC Toyota Twilight on Wednesday night were reflected in the scores when 19 men and 20 women braved the cold conditions. Dominic Stewart won the men’s division with 19 points, one ahead of Hugh Blundell and Tony Roseingrave while on the women’s side of the competition, five women ended with 17 points headed on count-back by Jeanette McNae.
Longest drives were won by Mitch Hooper and Ann Kenny with Murray Wolland again winning the All Teed Up Closest to the Pin competition. Jenni Johnston was the lucky winner of the Matahiwi Pinot Noir.
The four person team’s event is underway and two all women teams hold the early lead.

On Thursday the New World Supermarket competition had a runaway winner when David Cook amassed 43 points with Geoff Masters and Jack Richmond second on 38. Fourth with 37 were Dennis Hogg, Ash Peterson and Steve Hemingway. Steve Hemingway won the All Teed Up Closest to the Pin on No 8.

The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin on No 8 was Paul Williams and on No 18, Ray Verhaart. This week was also the last chance for players to qualify for the Moore Stephen Markham men’s shootout so the field will be finalised shortly for the final on 6 December.
The Men’s Match Committee AGM was held on Saturday and saw Tony Rowntree elected for a further year as Match Captain, The men’s committee remains very much the same as this year. The men’s prize giving was also held on Saturday with most winners already announced in this column. The Forrester Cup for the men’s ‘Player of the Season’ still has two weeks to go.
This Saturday sees the Trust House Christmas Cheer tournament with tee off times first thing in the morning, and then from 11.30 so put your name in any of the gaps now.
Off The Fairway
As you walk into the club house you can’t help but notice the ‘new’ Jimmy Shearer Trophy. This landscape photo of the golf course in the early 1950’s used to be coloured but over the years had become very faded and dilapidated- that is until Lorraine Stewart decided to do something about it and with Peter Nikoliason’s expertise changed it into a ‘black and white’ with anew frame- what a difference!
Well done Lorraine but now we want to write a ‘pen portrait’ of the history of the Jimmy Shearer so new members know some of the origins and traditions of our club’s trophies. Anyone with any information please contact Lorraine.
