Masterton Golf Club

Last Saturday, Anzac Day, the club held its very popular Lone Star Wine and Dine Tournament which is well supported by many eateries in Wairarapa and attracted a very good field which was entertained with a chipping competition and wine tasting with Matahiwi Estate wines after the event.

Overall winner, with a staggering 46 points and three points in front of the field, was Rosie Gould who had ‘one out of the box’. Abbreviated results were-

The prize list also included nearest the pins on four holes, a closest to the line on No 7 and a chipping competition.

Last Wednesday the 9 holers held the Southey Honda Cup which was won by Rochelle Latimer from Martinborough with 34 nett from Masterton’s Di Herbert on 35 and Errol Warren on 36. The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was Ruth Wiley.

Last Tuesday a good field of women played an LGU and Markham Shootout round with the overall winner being Julie Hamilton on 65 nett. Results were-

The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin on No 8 was Carolyn Stevenson and New World No 18 was Sereana Phillipps. Julie Hamilton also won the putting competition with 27 putts.

The Norah Lambourn Fourball Bestball which was to have been played this week has been postponed.

On Sunday the Tilson Salver team played Mahunga at Riversdale and had a 3½-2½ win with victories to Lesley Stewart, Lola Ogg and Helen Newland. The highlight of the day was a hole in one to Lesley Stewart on No 7.

The New World Supermarket Thursday competition turned out to be a benefit for Martinborough’s Colin Whibley-Smith who, fresh from a lesson with the pro, won the day with 42 stableford points, but also won the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin on No 8. Second was Joe Tuoro on 40 and third Simon Buckley on 39.

This weekend the club hosts the Wairarapa Open over 72 holes so the course will be closed on both Saturday and Sunday with members having reciprocal rights at any Wairarapa club (but please ring first) Entries are still being received in the three divisions, men’s open (up to h/c 7.1) and intermediate (up to 13.7) and the women’s open grade so contact the office or pro shop urgently. The men’s interclub Div 6 team is having a ‘catch up’ match against Ohariu at Ohariu
