Last Sunday the women’s Tilson Salver interclub team played the last match in the 2016 season at Riversdale against Featherston and although they had an excellent 5-1 win it wasn’t enough to overhaul the leader, Castlepoint, and Masterton came 3rd. Singles wins to Brenda Blatchford, Lola Ogg, Jocelyn Pollock, Lorraine Stewart and Helen Newland.
Last Friday a team of six women went to Castlepoint to contest the annual Rew and McCracken Cup. This is a nett competition for Wairarapa clubs with every team member’s score having to count- that really puts the pressure on as everyone has to play well. The winner of the cup this year was Castlepoint with a nett 400, second was Riversdale on 420 and Masterton came third with 423. It was a beautiful, calm day for golf!
The Captain’s v Chairman’s club event was postponed last Saturday as the clash with the rugby test proved too much of a counter attraction. It will be re scheduled for later in the year. Instead the biggest field on a Saturday for some time played a par round. Results were-

2nd Simon Smith +2
3rd Dennis Hogg +2
4th Rob Blackett +2
and then a swag on +1.
The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was won by Ash Peterson and No 18, by Jeff Ogg. A very good birdsnest (two 2’s) was won by Dennis Hogg.

On Monday the vets got an overcast day for the monthly ambrose competition. Results were-

On Wednesday the 9 holers played a PGG Wrightson Greensomes round which was won by Rosey Wellbrock and Val Diedrichs with 49 gross from Susie Williams and Beet Horrocks on 51. The PGG Wrightson Longest Drive was Geri Southey and the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was Ruth Wiley.
Top placing in the Thursday New World Supermarket stableford competition was Ewen Macdonald on 41 points, closely followed by Alex McLeod on 40 and David Cook and Darryl Hart on 39. The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin went to Geoff McKay.
