The major event of the week was undoubtedly the holding of the 43rd Bottle-O Trust House Open Turkey Tournament on Saturday. Played in fine conditions the tournament attracted the best field for some years with strong support from Mahunga and Eketahuna, so the move back to the traditional date of late November proved successful. Overall winner with a staggering 50 points (surely a record for a women), was Lola Ogg but she was at least 6 points better than the winners of the three divisions. As the prize lists in each division went down to 14-15th place the major results were-

Rob Blackett’s shot was in fact a hole in one.
The longest drives on No 18 were won by Judy Howard, Rob Blackett and Henry Stechman, while the longest day prizes were reluctantly given to Rob Cameron and Heather Ousey.
Last Wednesday the 9 holers had their own Bottle-O Turkey Tournament, and despite early morning rain, conditions proved excellent. Winner was Fern Moore with 25 points, from Ronny Percy with 20, and Lindy Williamson and Barbie Wallace on 19. The longest drive went to Fern Moore and the nearest the pin to Lindy Williamson.
The vets had their Turkey Tournament last week and were rained out on Monday.
The 9 holers have completed their club champs and held their prize giving. In the champs Di Herbert won with 79 from Geri Southey with 83 and Ruth Wiley with 84 while major prize winners were-

The TRC Toyota Wednesday twilight is proving very popular and another good field played in the individual competition last week. In the men’s competition Russell Stewart won with 19 pts from Alan Williams, with 18, while in the women’s competition Chris Lewis won with 20 from Jocelyn Pollock, also with 20. The Wairarapa Funeral Services Longest Drive’s were awarded to Harry Quinn and Chris Lewis and the All Teed Up Closest to the Pin was Harry Quinn. A new feature of the twilight this year is the Matahiwi Estate Pinot Noir Challenge which is a mystery challenge and changed each week. Last week the challenge had something to do with bunkers and the ‘winner’ was Lorraine Stewart.
The New World Supermarket competition on Thursday saw evergreen Dennis Hogg return to the winners circle with 42 points, followed by Allan Ewington, Kelvin Biggs, Steve Hemingway and Trevor Smith, all with 38. The All Teed Up Closest to the Pin was won by David Cook.
The women’s Shootout final is taking place as I write this report and the men’s Moore Stephen’s Markham final will be played this Sunday. The top men’s qualifier is Sila Faaiuaso with 197 and, because of a number of withdrawals, 19th place in the field goes to 220.
This Saturday is the first round of the men’s Summer Cup, decided by your best 3 Saturday nett scores between now and the end of January.
