Masterton Golf Club

The very heavy rain which ‘arrived’ on Saturday afternoon did not impact on the two men’s 18 hole teams who had early morning starts and had finished by the time the downpour began, but the 36 hole Otaki Cup team, playing at Miramar were almost drowned by the torrential rain. Div 1, playing Paraparaumu Beach, ended with a 10-5 loss which means they are currently in second place, but with the bye to come. Singles winners were Kerry Mountcastle, Sam Forrester and Owen Lloyd. Next week the team play Shandon at Judgeford.

Div 3 played at home against Miramar and gave the visitors the sort of thumping that helps the points table considerably. The 11½-3½ victory was helped by singles wins to Ewen Macdonald, Peter Jackson, Kevin Mackay, Tony Rowntree, Pim Borren, Geoff Masters, Hira Renata, and Ray Verhaart.

Div 6 had to travel to the very difficult Trentham and can be satisfied with a 10-5 defeat with singles wins to Ash Peterson and Bruce Watkins.

The 9 holers have also been involved in interclub. On 12 February they played Manor Park at Boulcott Farm and lost 4-0 but two weeks later the same team played Pauatahanui at Waikanae for an excellent 3-1 win with victories to Geri Southey, Ruth Wiley and Helen Ordish.

Last Wednesday the 9 holers played a nett and putting round with the nett winner being Di Alexander with a round of 32. Second was Judy Nichol with 33. The putting was won by Lorraine Jones with 15 putts and the PGG Wrightson Longest Drive went to Jill Slight and the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin to Judy Nichol.

The women’s interclub teams have recently also been in action with the Tilson Salver losing narrowly to Castlepoint at Mahunga and the pennants teams having mixed results.

This week the women had an LGU round for the Coronation Medal, the Aotearoa Cup and the Veterans Trophy, and putting. The Coronation medal was won by Linda Cameron and Jenny Sadler won both the Aotearoa Cup and the Veterans Trophy. Results were-

The Thursday New World Supermarket stableford competition again saw some excellent scoring with Russell Stewart winning with 44 points, followed by last week’s winner Tim Tatham and Jamie Brunton, both with 41. Murray Wolland was the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin.

This Saturday all the men’s interclub teams are playing again with the two 18 hole teams both at Manor Park. The men’s club field has a Moore Stephen Markham Shoot out round. All the women’s pennants teams play on Monday but none at Masterton so the vets are still on Monday.
