With most of the women’s Pennants teams and both the men’s 36 hole and 18 hole teams playing over the weekend the interclub players have been very busy.
The most successful team was undoubtedly the women’s Div 1 Totara team, playing Paraparaumu at Manor Park. Their 9-0 whitewash victory lifted them to 2nd with one round to go. Wins were recorded by Sereana Phillipps, Carolyn Stevenson, Roselee Thurston, Christine Lewis, Jo Philps and Jan Williams.
The Div 1 Manuka team played Martinborough at Boulcott’s Farm for a 3-6 loss with the only singles victory to Nooroa Rota. This result leaves them in ‘mid table’ position.
In Div 2 the Matai team played Kapiti at Kapiti, always a very hard proposition, and can be satisfied with a 2½-3½ loss with Lesley Stewart and Marilyn Beetham providing the wins. This team is now 3rd.
The Div 2 Kowhai team’s match was postponed.
The women’s Riverside Cup was also played last Friday and Masterton met Martinborough at Riversdale for a 2-4 defeat. Wins went to Jeanette McNae and Janice Hayes.
On Sunday the first women’s representative match of the year took place when Wairarapa met Wellington at Martinborough for the Julie Murphy Jug which was won by Wellington 4½-3½.
Wairarapa had three Masterton members in their team, Sam Maree Brown, Sereana Phillipps and Linda Cameron with Sereana winning her match.
The men’s Otaki Cup team played Shandon at Judgeford and had a 10½-4½ loss. After being 4-1 down after the morning foursome’s three good wins to Owen Lloyd, Sam Forrester and Dean Gray in the afternoon singles made the score more respectable. Half way through the preliminary rounds the team are now mid table, but with the bye to come.
In the 18 holes divisions both teams played Manor Park at Manor Park with similar results. The Div 3 team had a 10-5 loss with wins to Simon Buckley, Tony Rowntree and Pim Borren while the Div 6 team had a 11-4 defeat with Ash Peterson, Dennis Hogg and Trevor Howard providing the wins.
The 9 holers have also been busy with interclub. Last Thursday Masterton played Martinborough at Kapiti for a 2-2 draw with wins to Ruth Wiley and Val Diedrichs. The team is now mid table with the next round on Monday at Masterton against Waikanae.
Last Wednesday the 9 holers played a PGG Wrightson stableford competition which was won by Ruth Wiley with 24 points, from Beet Horrocks on 22. Beet Horrocks also won the longest drive.
The excellent scoring on Thursdays in the New World Supermarket stableford competition continues with Innes Kennard winning the day with 42 points from David Cook, also on 42. Dennis Hogg ‘shot his age’ again for 41 points followed by a large group on 39. Ash Peterson was the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin.
With all the interclub teams playing a small field faced the starter for a stableford round in the Saturday club field. Results were-

Ray Morris was the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin on No 8 and Kelvin Biggs won the No 18.
Cyclone Pam’s tail (not club captain Pam) impacted badly on the Tuesday ladies club day. The ladies were supposed to be playing the Nancy MacCormick Foursomes which would have involved 18 holes this week and another 18 next Tuesday but with the weather this week the trophy will be played over 36 holes next Tuesday with tee off at 9am.
This Saturday the course is going to be very busy with all the Div 1 teams playing 36 holes and the Div 6 team playing Ohariu at home. It would be an excellent time for the club day to be on Sunday.
Off The Fairway
This Friday the club is holding a ‘Golf Clothing and Fashion Show’ in the Bob Charles Lounge (upstairs) from 5-8pm. The show includes modelling of new in store ladies golf clothing and shoes, drinks, platters and orange juice and tickets are just $20. All golfers are welcome.
