The men’s interclub had its penultimate round on Saturday with the Gibsonsheat Premier team playing Judgeford at Shandon in the first round of the Presidents Salver. A win would mean a final with the winner of the other semi-final, a loss would mean a promotion relegation battle with the other beaten semi-finalist. Judgeford made ‘no race’ of it winning the match 11-4 and consigning Masterton to play Manor Park for relegation on 11 June. Masterton singles winners were Dean Gray and Simon Dew.
In the 18 hole divisions A1 played Wainuiomata at Wainui and lost 5½-9½. Although it is good to get more than 5 points ‘away’ this result leaves Masterton 1½ points behind Wainui in last place with an away game against Manor Park to come. Singles winners were Phillip Rutene, Geoff Masters and Tony Rowntree.
Div A1 played its last home game against Karori and had an 8½-6½ victory which leaves them just above Pauatahanui at the bottom of the division with an away game against the strong Paraparaumu team to play. Singles wins to Jamie Brunton, Carl Christensen, Paul Fouhy, Alan Williams Mike Dixon and Dennis Hogg.
On Sunday the men’s Marquis Shield team played Eketahuna at Martinborough but unfortunately the results are not yet available.
Last Friday Masterton hosted the Women’s Wellington Regional final of the NZ National Teams competition. The course was presented in magnificent condition and at the end of the competition Masterton and Royal Wellington were equal on points and Kapiti, third. Royal Wellington won the right to play in the NZ final, on countback. The Masterton team was Cindy Giles, Carolyn Stevenson, Jan Williams and Nooroa Rota.
