The major event over the last week has been the annual Sir Bob Charles Tournament with 18 holes played on Saturday and another 18 holes on Sunday. The winner of the Sir Bob Charles Trophy for the best two round gross score by a left hander was Ian Buchanan, while Kerry Mountcastle won the Sir Bob Charles Classic (left and right handers) with a total of 144. Most of the other ‘silver ware’ went to local veteran, Bill Sangster, who was awarded the Percy Holland Cup for the best left handers vet gross and the Clarke Cup for the best men’s lefthanders net round on either day. Last week’s Wednesday 9 holers played a putting round. Di Herbert won the competition with 17 putts. The PGG Wrightson Longest Drive was won by Ruth Wiley and the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin by Nicky and Di Herbert.
The New World Supermarket Thursday stableford competition saw a good field and some excellent scoring. Winner was Jack Richmond with 42 points from Trevor Smith on 41 and Jeff Ogg and Steve Hemingway on 40. The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin was won by John Tatham.
On Tuesday, after heavy overnight rain and in very strong cold winds the ladies field played for the Christiansen Trophy, a combined stableford competition. Results were-

The Graeme Jones Car Rental Nearest the Pin was won by Chris Lewis.
Next week the competition will be the par round, postponed earlier.
This Friday sees the new ‘Quick 7’Golf league begin with a quick fire 7 holes of 4 person ambrose golf starting from 5.30pm. This format of fun golf is great for anyone, man, women, teenager, golfer and non golfer and is designed to be fun at the end of the week. This week is a qualifying round so that no one tries to ‘burgle’ the extensive prize list so get your team organised and be ready for the new Quick 7 golf.
This weekend the men have a stroke round for the Challenge Shield and Chairman’s Trophy and the women have a Captain’s Choice.
