Masterton Golf Club

With a number of championship matches and other competitions on at the moment the club field, on Saturday was reduced for a stroke round for men and a stableford round for women. The men’s round also doubled as a Challenge Shield and Chairman’s Trophy competition with the current best gross round for the Challenge Shield being 70, set by Phil Tuoro way back in February and then equalled by Kerry Mountcastle on 8 March while Tony Roseingrave held the Chairman’s Trophy best net round with a net 62 on 8 March. Neither of these ‘benchmarks’ were to be bettered on Saturday. Results were-

Men

1st        Robin Carseldine                            70 net

2nd       Ian Harrowfield                                 71

3rd        Ash Peterson                                    72

Women

The best gross round of the day was 74 by Brent Mackenzie.

The winner of both the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin on No 8 and No 18 was Jamie Brunton.

Last Wednesday less than ten 9 holers arrived in the carpark but with the weather once again being nasty, they decided not to get wet and cold.

The Thursday New World competition saw one standout round. Brett Dymond easily won the competition with 41 points and a long way back on 37 came Geoff Masters, Paul Fouhy and Gavin Harris. Brett Dymond also won the All Teed Up Nearest the Pin, but the biggest prize went to Geoff Masters who got the birdsnest with two 2’s.

The only other club competition was the Monday vets who had a magnificent day and a large field. Results were-

Off The Fairway

I notice the vets are organising a trip to play in the 2015 Norfolk Island Veterans Tournament at the beginning of February. There is only one course on the island but, as home to the Norfolk Island Golf Club is has some very unique features including the course being on a World Heritage site that was linked to a former penal settlement, a club house that was built in 1843 and spectacular views where you tee off on No 5/14 on a cliff high above the sea.
