This coming Saturday is the annual Masterton Halberg Day which is run by the Eagles Golfing Society and all funds raised go to the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation. This fund is dedicated to provide grants, lessons and equipment to enable disabled children and young people with a disability to become more active more often. The fund not only allows disabled children to participate with their peers, but enhances their quality of life and provides them with the same sense of enjoyment we all experience when we play sport. Last year the NZ Eagles donated $165000 to the Trust and since 1969 have raised over $4.5m for the Trust.
Our tournament, involving both our men and women members, has a $10 entry fee with excellent prizes, donated by many Wairarapa businesses, and cards have to be in by 12 noon. The competition will be stableford. Our members are also supporting the day by providing cakes for the traditional auction after the golf and these should be delivered to the club house
Last weekend two of our promising junior players represented Wellington in the annual match against Auckland in Taupo. Kerry Mountcastle, playing at No 5 in the senior men had two wins out of three and Dean Gray in the age group men had one win from three matches.
A large field of 9 holers played a putting round on Wednesday. Rosey Wellbrock won the competition with 13 putts from Errol Warren and Jane Watts, both with 15. The PGG Wrightson Longest Drive went to Di Herbert.
The vets got a cold, cloudy day on Monday for the monthly ambrose competition Results were-

The Fagan Ford Closest to the Pin’s were won by Sue Blathwayt and Bob Macfarlane.
Paul Fouhy has certainly come back to form with his last two rounds. In the Thursday New World Supermarket stableford round he easily won the competition with 44 points from Bob Hill with 41 and Carl Christensen with 40. 4th were Brad Chittick and Richard Searle on 39. The All Teed Up Closest to the Pin was won by Paul Fouhy but he missed the birdsnest by the smallest of margins.
And then on Saturday, in the club field Paul Fouhy shot a nett 59 for 48 stableford points in the men’s competition. It is anticipated that he should lose at least a shot of his very generous 16 handicap! Other results were-

The All Teed Up Nearest the Pin on No 8 was won by Danny Clarkson and No 18 by David Cook.
Saturday was also a round in the men’s Moore Stephen Markham Shootout and needless to say Paul Fouhy’s 58 nett saw him ‘leap’ from his previous 12th position to lead the qualifying by 6 points. I will update both the men’s and women’s shootout fields next week.
The Tuesday women’s club day was cancelled because of the weather. Good luck to the Cotter Cup team that is playing at Featherston on Friday.
This Saturday the main event is the Eagles Halberg Day but planning is underway for the 2016 Recreational Services Masterton Eketahuna Pro Am to be played on 30 and 31 January so start getting your team together now as team entry forms will be posted to all teams that entered this year on 9 October and new teams will be able to enter from 27 October.
Off The Fairway
This Friday 4 September the club is holding a Quiz Night the clubhouse starting at 7pm. Teams can have a maximum of 6 people at $15 per person and a raffle and auction will also take place. A light supper will be served. Entries are still being received ph 3774984.
