This year the Moore Stephens Markham men’s and women’s shootouts are being played under the same qualifying rules, although the finals will be played on slightly different days. To qualify for the shootout finals in early December both men and women must enter at least seven rounds on designated days and their top five scores count. This is different to last year when the men had to play only five rounds with their top three counting. The women played their second to last qualifier this week so with one qualifier to go Jo Philps is currently the top qualifier with a total of 360 but all the interest is around the 19th (and last) position where 381 is the magic number and there are six women who could ‘get in the field’ with a good score next week.
The men still have nine qualifying rounds to go but at the stage Paul Fouhy is the top qualifier, helped by his 59 nett last week, with a total of 333, but there are only nine men who have played the required seven rounds. It might be a good idea to check up on the score sheet on the men’s notice board.
