The crucial match for the Div 1 men’s interclub team, which was postponed last week, was held at Wainuiomata on Saturday and Masterton met Judgeford to come away with a 6½-8½ loss. After drawing the morning foursomes Masterton narrowly lost the afternoon singles with two of the matches halved. Singles wins went to Sam Forrester, Owen Lloyd and Simon Smith. This result means Masterton will meet Paraparaumu at Royal Wellington in two week’s time to determine which team is relegated.
The men’s 18 hole interclub teams had their last match of the season, both against Manor Park at home and both teams needed wins to secure their position in their division. In Div 3 Masterton’s 8-7 win, with other results ‘going their way’, was good enough to climb up to 4th place and remain in Div 3 next year. Singles wins were recorded by Tony Rowntree, Murray Wolland and Jeff Ogg. However Div 6 did not fare so well and their 6-9 loss, and other results not being positive meant the Div 6 team will probably play in Div 7 next year, but without the 9 hole courses they have found so difficult this year. Singles wins went to Ray Verhaart, Bruce Watkins, Paul Fouhy and Phillip Rutene.
The women’s Tilson Salver interclub team played Riversdale at Carterton on Sunday for a 3-3 draw with wins to Trish Newcombe, Marilyn Beetham and Helen Newland. This result leaves Masterton two points off first place.

Off The Fairway
The green keepers are making excellent progress on the improvements to the surrounds of No 8 but during this time we are playing a temporary hole from the wood pile to the practise green behind No 9 green. After some experimentation it has been decided to play this hole after No 9- this helps the flow of the field and makes it easier to keep the scorecard!
