Russell is having a winter break and heading North so the office will be closed on Monday and Tuesday next week.
Several fund raising ventures are about to be started one being a major raffle with the 1st prize being a $2,000 travel voucher. It is our aim to sell all the tickets thus making the club a tidy profit and as such would like all members to participate by selling a book or two. Pam Griffith is the organiser and will be contacting you very shortly.
The other fund raiser will be our annual Quiz Night being held on Friday evening September 4th. This is run by Quiz Master Chris Cogdale. We would like donations for prizes for this event. The prizes do not have to be too costly. Last year we had books, Vouchers, Cakes of chocolate, bottles of wine all sorts of bits and bobs for the teams of six. We would also like larger items for the auction. If you have any contacts or family that are in business and would like to donate something to this cause we would greatly appreciate it. Their business will be recognised in flyers and on the night. It is certainly a fun night out so mark it down on your calendar. Last year we had a full house.
You will have noticed our Wednesday wood team trimming some of the branches from the gum beside the No.1 green. Eventually this tree will be removed professionally to alleviate the mess that gets deposited around that area and let some more light through. Whilst on the subject of trees, Robin and his team are well aware of any trees that either come down in storms or are removed. Most are replaced with more suitable trees that suit the course conditions.
Finally what a great day was had by all that participated in the Wairarapa Sports Education Trust Ambrose Tournament. The winning team was The Putting Gods, Joel Macklin, Simon Dew, Alec Treseder and Michael Batley on a staggering nett score of 52.38. Their round included lots of birdies and an eagle on 18. The Trust raised just under $10,000 which will be used to support Wairarapa sportspeople and coaches. 26 teams of four played. Someone dropped a prize voucher in the carpark. Contact Sue Rutene to verify and claim.
Next big tournament is the Hospice Wairarapa Ambrose same format as Sports Ed. Tourn. to be held on Friday August 14th. Go to www.hospicewairarapa.co.nz for more details.
