Description
This is a Four Ball Best Ball Match Play competition.
Played on Handicap between two-man teams.
Players organize their own partners, or the Competition Manager will allocate partners.
Handicaps
Each player establishes their COURSE Handicap on the day of the match (the easiest way to get your course handicap is to draw a card from the Pro Shop computer.).
The lowest ‘Course’ handicap player reverts to scratch.
The other players take the resulting FULL Handicap difference as their handicap for the match.
Playing Rules
The best individual score, after handicap adjustment, wins the hole for his team.
If players from opposing teams jointly have the lowest score after handicap adjustment, then the hole is ‘halved’.
Cameron Trophy
Description
This is a Foursomes Handicap Match played between two-man teams.
Players organize own partners, or Competition Manager can allocate partners stroke.
Handicaps
Each player establishes their COURSE Handicap on the day of the match. [The easiest way to get your course handicap is to draw a card from the Pro Shop computer]
Each side combines their two handicaps and the lowest combined handicap side reverts to scratch for this match.
The other side takes half (50%) of the difference between their two combined total handicaps.
When that 50% results in a “0.5” fractional difference the Team Handicap is rounded up to a full stroke.

Captain's Trophy
Description
This is a Four Ball Match play competition played on handicaps allocated to each 2-man Team.
At the end of each hole, team members combine their two scores and then adjust that Team Score for those holes where that team has a ‘shot allocation’ due to their team handicap.
The lowest Team score after handicap adjustment wins that hole.

Each side combines their two handicaps and the lowest combined handicap side reverts to scratch for this match
The other side takes the resulting FULL HANDICAP DIFFERENCE as their Team Handicap for that match. Strokes are given on the Stroke Holes as per the Card of the Day. This includes strokes allocated on any holes of extended play.
Playing Rules
Play will always be off the White Tees unless all players agree to play off an alternative tee.
For clarity, if the hole is one where a team gets ‘shots’ due to their team handicap then those shots are deducted from their ‘team’ total on that hole and not from their individual scores.
Challenge Shield
Description
This is a competition to establish the BEST GROSS score recorded by a player during a Club Competition Day on nominated dates across the season.
Play is always from the BLUE TEES.
Where practical, one club Playing Day each month is nominated and all rounds recorded on that day are taken into account in establishing the Best Gross Round for the Year.
This Competition is held on the same day and in conjunction with the Chairman’s Trophy Competition.
Playing Rules
In order to have any rounds considered for inclusion in this season-long competition, you must enter the Pro Shop Competition on that day.
Men's Club Champs
Description
Contested by Match Play rounds played ‘off-the-stick” between players in Divisions of Senior, Intermediate, Junior, and Masters.
Entry is open to all men members.
The Draw is seeded by handicap in each Division.
Preliminary rounds of matches will leave the final two players to compete for their respective Divisional Club Championship on Finals day.
Handicaps
The Divisions for the Club Championship are the same as for the Sellar Trophy and player’s handicaps or Age to place them in their respective division are taken from the date the Match Play draw is made.
Grandad's Trophy
Description
This is a Handicap Stroke Play round scored by Stableford.
The Competition is usually run in conjunction with a normal Club Day Saturday in which players who are Grandfathers compete.

Hornabrook Cup
Description
This is a Singles Stroke Play 18-hole ‘par’ round played to Handicap.
It is played on a Club Saturday.

Playing Rules
In a PAR round, the player’s NET score at a hole is compared with PAR for the course. Scoring better than PAR scores the player a WIN; scoring the same NET score as PAR is a SQUARE and any NET score amounting to a One over Par (Bogey) or worse is recorded as a LOSS.
At the end of the round, the Total number of LOSSES is deducted from the Total number of WINS and a final result is recorded as PLUS or MINUS the difference.
The Player with the highest PLUS total at the end of the competition is the winner. Players tied with the same number of WINS will be separated by a Countback to identify as single winner.
However, as this is a Stroke Competition, a PAR round may be played in conjunction with any other STROKE Play competition on that same round.

John Whitehead trophy
Maunesell Trophy
Description
This is a handicap Stroke Play competition played over two rounds on two different days.
The first round is played as a NET competition and the TOP 16 NET Scores qualify those players to compete for the Maunsell Trophy. 16th place ties will be separated by a countback to identify a definite qualifier.
Those 16 players then compete in a PAR round played on handicap. This second round is played on another day – usually the following weekend – The best PAR round wins the MAUNSELL TROPHY.

Playing Rules
The first Round is played by as many players as enter. The second Round is limited to 16 players.
All participants complete each round on the same day and during the same time as fellow competitors.
The best PAR round wins the MAUNSELL TROPHY. 1st place ties will be separated by a countback to identify a single victor.
All players in the PAR round will commence their round off the No 1 Tee unless directed otherwise by the Starter.
Oldfield Rosebowl
Description
Singles Match play Handicap competition. The Draw is determined by a random draw

The other Player takes the resulting FULL Handicap Difference as his handicap for that match.

Riverside Salver
Description
This is a Stableford competition played on Handicap over one round. It can be played in conjunction with any Club Saturday Stroke play competition.

Sellar Trophy
Description
This competition is only open to Masterton Golf Club members. Divisions are Senior, Intermediate, Junior and Masters playing “off the stick”.
The Senior and Intermediate divisions to play 36 holes off the BLUE tees, starting at approximately 7:30am for the first round and then about 12:15 for the 2nd round.
Junior and Masters divisions to play 18 holes off the WHITE tees and will start at approximately 11:30am.
The Senior and Intermediate competition is played over 36 holes on the same day; all other divisions are played over 18 holes. The Master’s Division is open to all players aged 70 years and older on the day of the competition. They may not enter any other Division in this championship but entering the Masters Division in this competition does not restrict entry into another Division in other Club Competitions or Championships.
Handicaps
The Division in which a player competes in is taken from their handicap or age established as at the date of the competition.
Shootout
Description

This is a single stroke round competition played by 19 qualifiers.
Qualification is by players entering the Shootout Preliminary Rounds on nominated Club Days during the year. The best 5 Net Rounds scored by each entrant are totaled at the end of the preliminary rounds and the best 19 players advance to the Shoot Out Round.
All 19 players play the first hole with the player taking the most strokes – after adjusting scores for handicap – dropping out of the competition. This continues until 2 players remain in contention on the 18th hole. The lowest Net score on hole 18 wins the competition.
In the event that more than one player ties the most strokes on a hole, those players will chip their ball from off the Green and onto the Green of that hole. The player who’s ball rests furthest from the pin after that chip out drops out of the competition.

Each player establishes their COURSE Handicap on the day of each preliminary round and on the day of the Final Shootout Round
Playing Rules
The preliminary rounds are Stroke Play Rounds held in conjunction with a normal Club Day competition on either Thursday or Friday. Players may play on the Blue or White Course; it is their NET score which is recorded
The Final Shootout Round is played under Stroke Play rules. However, during the Final Shootout Round, to aid the swiftness of play and taking into account the number of players, trundlers and balls in play in the early stages, Match Play Rules may be applied by the Match Manager in specific circumstances especially in relation to Rule 2 (concession of loss of hole by any player) and Rules 18 & 19 (Ball at Rest Moved and Ball in Motion Deflected or Stopped.)
